Chimaera seat colour?
Discussion
Hi Guys & Gals
Just wondering if you can help....I will be restoring my friends seats in his 430BV, the seats are in fairly good nick so will be re-constituting the foams and colouring the leather, they look cream/stone but more like a buttermilk...

Was this a standard colour?...
Thanks for any help
Regards
Ziga
P:S Forgot to add, I can send a sample off if need be but was hoping to save some time...

I coloured my Chim interior with Furniture Clinic products and and am very pleased with the results. I was too mean to get a test done so I bought Jaguar Magnolia. This came out slightly lighter in colour but I prefer, I had intended to colour everything so it was ok. Worst bits were the screen surround and lower dash which I didn’t remove.

Thanks for the heads up...That was going to be my next question...FC products look good and was a flip up between them..Gliptone or Dyna-mix I coloured my Chim interior with Furniture Clinic products and and am very pleased with the results. My friend who owns the car is going to try to remove the top dash as the leather has shrunk back, probably with the heat from the heater vents....Doesnt look an easy job!...

Hello Zig
I have a Chimaera and could do with the central 3 tunnel/console pieces re-doing. The "lemon squeezer" is in the central section rather than next to gear stick & handbrake so a little more complicated than the one in the pics.
any thoughts? Just trying to confirm existing material used.
Cheers

Hi Alun
Is that a dent in the centre console, as well as a scuff mark?...The dent can be removed in place as long as the part is not damaged as it is fibreglass and the scuffs can be removed with alcohol wipes.
My friend is happy with the Jaguar Magnolia, once I have re-coloured his seats I will have a sample that I could send you as regards to colour.
I believe that "Ambla" is a form of vinyl that is manufactured in the UK to the highest quality standards. Ambla is formulated to meet Crib 5, is highly durable and contains active ingredients which protect against the growth of mould and mildew.
Are your seats full leather or half/leather faced?....

Hi Mark. Is that a dent in the centre console, as well as a scuff mark?...The dent can be removed in place as long as the part is not damaged as it is fibreglass and the scuffs can be removed with alcohol wipes.

Wow, I didn’t know that.
Seats, I’m not sure to be honest, I think they are half faced,, . Yes that’s a dent in the console (padding) I hope and it’s taken the colour out. It’s been there about two years now.
I suppose it’s not easy getting the material the factory used some 17 years ago,,, or is it.
If the fibreglass needs re filling then I’ll need to pull that bit off the console so a new bit might be better as mines got a scuff Mark here and there.
I recently re fitted the console with Phazed after a clutch change and I’ve put a fair bit of the Chim interior back in before on another car.
I think I’ll just start with the seats first.
A friends pm’d me mentioning sending off a sample so I’ll likely do that to get a good colour match.
This particular colour is not magnolia as I’d know it although as it’s getting older it’s sort of darker, in good light it has a tinge of lemon in it and even blue flecks as if the material is a different colour underneath.
ETA, I’ve just realised the centre section encompasses the door opener, jeez, big job!

You can still get some vinyls but most have changed a fair bit over the years...Some of the TVR vinyl was like leather...ICI made a fair bit of it.
Colour matching is the better way to go if re-dyeing...only doing one seat may look odd though...
I thought the seats in my friends Chimaera were more buttermilk in colour but it says magnolia on the build sheet...trouble is that there are a few variants of magnolia...
There are a few ways of telling leather over vinyl but a good one is the touch-test ....Press into the leather, looking for creases and wrinkles. Real leather will wrinkly under the touch, just like real skin. Synthetic materials usually just depress down under your finger, retaining rigidity and shape.

Hi,
I used the Furniture Clinic kit & they supplied TVR Magnolia.
(Changed colour from Flint [a Grey] to Navy Blue upper & TVR Magnolia Lower)
It looks good, even if I am a bit rubbish as a painter :-)
Mine was also Half Hide, which basically means everything is Vinyl, except for the Seat base & the Seat back.
The sides & front of the seat base are vinyl as are the back & sides of the seat back, if you see what I mean.
Seat with head rest painted (but not with satin finish)

Center console real colour (as they look a bit brown in the above picture

I've not got any finished pictures as I still have to complete the finishing of them
