I was just looking to getting rid of some old stock/left overs from old hobbies that I had lying around the house to make way for the little nipper.
The obvious place being ebay, it seems the way ebay works when I last used it has completely changed...

I advertised it as normal, all correctly spelt, good description, good pictures etc.

I thought I'd leave it at that, and a buyer would be along soon enough. After having no luck TWICE, I did a little digging around to see why I'm having no luck.
It seem as a default, instead of showing up items 'ENDING SOONEST' like it always has, now it comes up as 'BEST MATCH'.
From start to finish, my advert never even touched the first few pages for prospective buyers are able to see them to get rid!?.
This stuff I promised the Mrs I'd get rid off is still lying around the house!.

What's the story with this 'best match' business, and how do I make my things I NEED getting rid off noticeable to buyers?

They've been doing that for years. It's just the default search though, any user can change it to lowest price, nearest first, ending soonest or whatever they like. I find stuff still collects view and watchers and still sell fine.
What are you listing?

I moved away from using eBay a few years ago, just became a PITA.

Now tend to use gumtree to shift anything thats not needed anymore.

^This..............its just the default search setting..........they do it to encourage the business sellers to sign up to their search promoting services (A bit like Google SEO).........ultimately, if what you listed didn't sell, it for another reason other than this..............

No personal experience, but several people have mentioned buying items through Gumtree.
Perhaps that is worth a try.

How did you set a starting price? If the price is anywhere close to what items have sold for then it might not get much interest even from people who see the listing. If you really want to get rid, start them at 99p and if they are desirable you'll get a decent price. If they aren't all that special (ie. lower prices, or lots of competition) then Gumtree or a boot sale is probably better, or I hear Facebook (ugh!) is successful for shifting stuff.

I find it excellent. More likely you're asking twice as much as it's worth.
