Pavement etiquette?
Discussion
Another pressing matter to discuss on PH - what is the correct etiquette in this pavement situation?

Mr Orange is running along a pavement that is not quite wide enough for 3 people to stand side by side. One side of the pavement is joined by a fairly busy road (with cars approaching from behind) and the other side by a wall.
Two chaps are in conversation walking side by side. (Mr Blue and Mr Green)
Question 1) In general, how should these 3 individuals negotiate this situation
Question 2) If you are Mr Orange and you notice that Mr Blue and Mr Green continue their course and make absolutely no effort to accommodate a smooth passing on the pavement, what do you do?

I've been thinking about this very subject today.
I go for a walk at lunch around a business park that has lovely walks around the lakes and forest and usually in on my own and encounter 2, 3 or 4 people in a group coming the other way, more often than not I found myself taking to the grass to avoid a head on, so to speak.
It seems to me that Mr green should move out of the way.
I got fed up of moving so now if they bump into me a tell them how it is. It's rude not to have even a little common courtesy or awareness.

Your comments are generaslly in line with my thinking too.
I would definitely make some kind of effort to fall back and tuck in slightly to accommodate the runner on the pavement.
Well, this situation happened today and I was Mr Orange out on a rare run. The two guys coming the other way were Students - of which we have many particularly arrogant and superior examples. I was so surprised that they made no effort to accommodate me that I had to step down into the road to get passed them. Luckily there was a small gap in the traffic.
I'm just planning my move for if I come across this situation again.
To my shame, when I was particularly drunk a number of years ago, I performed a full on shoulder barge on an unsuspecting pavement hogger in the passed in a similar situation. I don't want to do that again, but I'm thinking of my options....

Yep, I think this will by my approach next time. Not quite as aggressive as the other options I had considered. I'm not stepping into the road ever again for these arrogant chumps.Ayahuasca said:

This is generally what I do, as a walker rather than a runner though.Usual suspects tend to be women lost in conversation, and dressed up, slighly older couples out on an evening in moneyed parts of London.
If space is there then fine to squeeze past, but going onto the road is just not on.
OP did you actually go to the trouble to draw that pic rather than just describing? Very thorough, and anbit weird

Get this a lot (though only walking, not running).
Tends to be females that refuse to move over and lack the courtesy to thank you if you do.
If it happens to you again you should stop in front of them and start doing star jumps that take up the whole pavement until they concede - can't let your heart rate drop,
