Buying SLK 55 R172
Discussion
Check the operation of the roof. Then check it again. Then again! Mine was inoperable for 6 months as the parts were out of stock at Mercedes. It is a not too frequent occurrence that they go wrong (according to MB anyhow) but it relates to the sensors that are linked to the catch that locks the boot separator into place.
Make sure that locks in place securely and doesn’t pop out or wobble unduly.
Other than that I had no real issues with it.
Check the front splitter/spoiler as it’s very prone to speed bump damage and it’s not particularly visible without getting down on the floor (or the car on a ramp.) There is a plate behind it that can come loose if it’s damaged and it’s pretty expensive to replace.
Bear in mind the diamond cut alloys are very vulnerable (especially at the back as the car is wider) and not every wheel refurb place will repair them. They are also quite expensive to do. I paid 125 for 1 wheel.
The other is the seating position. Take a good long test drive. It will go low OR far back, not both. I’m 5’10 and always thought anyone taller would struggle to get comfy.

Gmlgml many thanks for the information. 😃
I have bought this car..https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201710170382877?logcode=visc&fromSA=true
It's a beast and pussy cat when needed .. what an engine! Surprised I didn't hear more pops and crackles from the exhausts though.
Really liked the leather dashboard and doors which makes the interior feel special.
What's the best way to make the gearbox change as quickly as possible?
What's the best value way to make the exhaust louder?
