Honda crv or Toyota rav4 (2002 onwards)
Discussion
Im thinking of the above as a cheap tip/dog carrier and like both the second generations of both models, being jap they should have some years left in them right?
Both of these have timing chains but are they going to need replacing with 100k+ on them?
Any owners like to share their thoughts on these cheap 4x4`s..
I am thinking of spending up to £5k at most but less is better..
thanks

We had a 2002 rav4 from new and put 100k on it , with no major drama. Just consumables. Not sure what state it would be in by now, but the mot history checker suggests its still on tbe road.
It was a decent steer and the permanent Awd was handy in the winter. Depends on the size of your dog but the boot isnt that big
For 5k, you might also want to look at legacy/outbacks

Our dog is a staffy/bully cross so not overly big and he would often sit on the back seat but i like the higher driving position that both these models have as well as 4x4..It was a decent steer and the permanent Awd was handy in the winter. Not keen on the legacy/outback but i do like the forrester but timing belt is something id like to keep away from..

Fair enough, the rav is a good car and drives well enough, we currently have a 2012 version, i dont find it as comfy as the older one we had. Somewhere between the 2 ravs, I ran a 2003 forester for a couple of years, just the regular 2 litre (not the turbo). I would say its a much better steer, but the driving position is not as elevated, if thats what you are afterNot keen on the legacy/outback but i do like the forrester but timing belt is something id like to keep away from..
