Hi gents,

I am lucky enough to have an allocation for a GT3 991.2
It seems that my allocation will be delayed and delivery will now be not earlier than March - April.
My local dealer though could give me an allocation for a 991 GT3 RS for delivery early summer.

Do we know if officially they can give allocations as of now?
For the normal GT3, I would go for the manual transmission.
For the RS I am told it will be offered only with PDK.

Important question is:
WHICH ONE WOULD YOU GO FOR?

Purchase value is one thing but I am more concerned about the collectability and value of the car after lets say 5 and 10 years. Which car will be better as an overall experience? The manual but normal GT3 or the big daddy?

What do you think production numbers will be for the GT3 and the RS model?

I am driving nuts - hope you can help.

PS: Any feedback of current owners with a Manual GT3, that have also driven PDK would be great.
Is manual maybe not suiting this car?

Best,
Alexis

If you're only interest in values which it seems you are, only RS models end up at high prices.

GT3 always drop in the end.

Why has the GT3 been delayed but they can promise you a car which does not exists atm.

Thank you for your reply. Delay is for about 1 month.
I was one of the last to get an allocation (I am based in Switzerland).

Doing some calcs it seems that manual GT3s might be about 1500 worldwide. That is just 50% more than 911r and definitely less that the RS models... I have a small feeling manual GT3s could be going for same money (if not more) that RS's in 5-10 years time.

That's interesting. It sounds like they are giving you a 2018 Allocation Car, which have not yet been released (edit: in the UK), rather than a delayed 2017 car? Very odd.

But not as odd as a new RS early summer which doesn't even exist yet ......

For the record OP , I have a manual and it's awesome ( but I'm not sure that's your main driver judging by the post above )

The manual was the only reason why I considered a new GT3.
A new car in general...

Do you feel it suits the engine?

Give us some more details about the feel and the synchronisatio with the engine
Engine power and change of gears etc.

We might drive electrics to work - but not during the w/e's
Not in 2, not in 5, not in 50 years.

The manual gearbox definitely suits the engine - they are sublime together. You would not be disappointed.

You have an interest dilemma although sports car ownership should for the majority of people be about "driving" & not long-term collectibility. If your car becomes too special, you may then find yourself in a quandary where you don't want to drive it for fear of damage/impact on value for additional miles added & this happened to several friends with 996/996 GT3s who sold up to get cars that were more usable.

Whilst I'm unlikely to be in such a situation as you are, Lottery win excluding, manual cars are becoming more scarce & a true drivers' car IMHO has always been a manual for the engagement you get. Good luck with making your decision - it's a genuine PH dilemma for the modern world.

Not really, the RS is pretty much a dead cert for Geneva next year, swiss deliveries are usually pretty early as well.

The RS is the very obvious choice for the OP imo, it'll be the better car to drive as the RS always is and in the same way it always holds value better.

Surely that's subjective? An RS might be 'better' under certain circumstances, but I'd hazard a guess that a nicely spec'd manual GT3 Touring could be the jewel in the crown.

.
The point I was making was as of today the car does not exist and therefore their are no allocations . I agree probable Geneva launch with early summer cars , but its a few months yet before dealers should be promising cars .....
