Hi,

Just bough an S3C (What an awesome car!!!!, sounds and looks great!) One small thing that needs fixing is the leather sock/gator around the gear stick. The sock/gator has pulled out from under the leather over the transmission tunnel. How easy is it to remove the leather covering (over the tunnel, so that I can push the sock/gator back in? Does that make sense?!

Any help is much appreciated.

Regards

A happy new S3 owner.

Welcome to the S club

I think its a case of TADTS. On mine, I carefully prise up the tunnel cover with a screwdriver and use a flat bladed chisel to stuff it back under.

There are 2 screws, one each side, at the rear of the centre consol. Undo these and the consol can be lifted up allowing the gear lever gaitor to be re fitted properly.

Personally I'd use a spoon handle, less chance of rippage.

I actually meant one of these:

I have 2 inch wide completely blunt one (no nob gags, please) which did the job just fine.

Its worth putting in two srews to hold it in place or it will continue to come out?

I made one of these. Certainly tidies it up and stops it ever coming out again

Trapped the gaiter under the alloy suround

Welcome to the fold, I look forward to meeting you soon. As mentioned here TADT, in fact it is held in place by the centre console pushing down on it, it doesn't go under the leather that covers the console. If that makes sense. (End of the week frazzled mode on)

Think I get what you mean!

I put it back this weekend and it looks a lot better.

Thanks for the info.

Sorry for the multiple postings!

As mentioned already, I have managed to replace the gaiter, however it is looking fairly tatty and is ripped in serveral places. Does anyone know where I can get a new one (pref black)?

Secondly, what does TADTS mean?

Thanks
