I had a VRS and a tune alone will release 34-40 ponies. LOADS of mods available for these and a good forum (Briskoda). Loved mine to bits. Lots of turbo lag though and the cream seats stain remarkably easy. Luckily mine had been re-trimmed in leather. Reliable, well built and good fun. Cant comment on the others though.

Is the Skoda Fabia vRS you're on about the 1.9 tdi PD unit?

Good shout! That’s the one I commented on, not the newer one.

I had a 2.2 i-CDTI Civic on a 56 plate. I absolutely adored it. Mine was a black 5 door with the 17" alloys, Sat Nav, split climate control and electric everything. I loved it. It was so quiet that people didn't think it was a diesel from inside the cabin. In 4 and a half years I put 127k miles on it and all it cost me outside of normal service items was a clutch. With a remap it was a properly quick car and returned a steady 56 mpg on motorway runs. It's the longest I've ever owned a car by a long way and I still enjoyed driving it right up to the day I sold it.

If I had one complaint it was that it was a little crashy over rough surfaces but it really was just a minor irritation.

Had my 58 plate diesel Civic for 6 years now. Love it to be bits and plan on running it into the ground. Very reliable and economical!

We've been lucky with diesel Civics in the UK. The old 2.2 is a great car. A strong engine, grest cabin and a very reliable car overall. Some have had issues with the DMF but it'd still come out on top for me.
