I saw these things hanging under the back of a 207cc:





They are like really soft mounts as they have rubber in them, you can twist them and they spring back, other than that they just dangle there...
I have no idea what they are for, some kind of chassis vibration damper? Something to do with the retractable hard top?

And the back pads looked like this:



Which is a bit weird too, why would you reduce the contact face like that? Stop squeal perhaps?

I reckon you are right on both counts. Top are dampers to stop vibrations through the suspension (my mazda has them on the front), bottom I have never seen before but again, I suspect you are right.

I'd love to know the technology behind it. At the other end of the scale was the way they'd braced the chassis, it was simply two pieces of flat bar in a big X bolted on from one cill to the other!

Brake pads like that are a cheap way to reduce rear brake bias.
