Advice required please.

Shortly looking to replace the 19 inch Bridgestone Potenza's RE050A N1 tyres on my 2008 Boxster. Currently looking at Black Circles who also have recommended Michelin Pilot Sport 2's with a N2 designation and also Pirelli P Zero also with a N2 designation. What do these N1 and N2 designations mean? I also want a tyre with a decent rim protector as my Bridgestone's have.

Looking for an all weather tyre, grip more important than wear. Also my Bridgestone's seem quite noisy so possibly something quieter.

N ratings mean they're Porsche approved. A must if you have the Porsche extended warranty.

If you don't, obviously anything in the right size is fine. Michelin PS4S is the tyre of choice at the moment I think.

Goodyear Eagle F1s are the quietest, with very good all-round performance.

I'll second that, mine are 20", and are quiet, wearing really well, and weren't expensive! The are the correct 'N' rated too!!

ps2 is a 12 year old tyre design, I am shocked you can order one.

PS4S will give you better grip every where and last the longest.

As has been said the N bit means Porsche approved. An N2 will be a newer version of the same make of tyre - so an N2 PZero is an update of the N1 - and, as it happens, a much better tyre than its predecessor. Personally prefer it to the Goodyears - I have both - but the Goodyears may be a bit quieter on road roar, though the Pirellis are better on bump-thump. But Michelin's do seem to be highly regarded for handling (no personal experience), though in the past this has been to the detriment of noise/comfort issues. Said to be better now, but there are few back-to-back tests around (and none on N rated tyres) to confirm. The price diffentials might sway you!

PS4 are brilliant - providing you can get them in the sizes you'll need. Can't believe how much they've transformed my 2004 Boxster.
