I used to get them at least a couple of times a month and no prescribed medication seemed to help at all. The only thing that worked for me was a couple of Ibuprofen (No idea why they helped and the knock out pills from the Dr didn’t) and then to lie in a pitch black room for an hour or so and just try and relax.

I really feel for you mate, they are crippling things to get. On a positive note, mine just seemed to vanish of their own accord and haven’t had one for 4 years. Hope yours get better.

Everytime I come to the UK I buy bags of Syndol for a french friend (it's not available in France). She swears that it's the only thing that helps her migraines. Non-prescription, so maybe worth a try?

You told me you had one the other night!

I used to get them fairly regularly myself. I used to end up taken some ibuprofen and lay down in a dark room and go to sleep.

Under any stress at the moment?

Yeah, she's worried the Tabloids are going to get spy shots of her and Price William in a hotel room!

That's the gutting thing. I got them before over a period of 2-3 months and they stopped just as quickly as they started. I had no idea what brought them on and no idea why they went.

I haven't had one for 2 years and then on the weekend, totally out of the blue, I had one of the worst ones ever. I had hoped it would be a one off but had another during the night.

I can't let them become a major thing in my life so am starting to research them and find available cures. Unfortunatley I've only drawn up a few theories and nothing concrete yet.

Thanks for your advice - I find 1 paracetemol and 1 ibuprofen together usually numbs them.

I've read that Colloidal Silver is an (supposedly) effective cure for all types of minor but nonetheless debilitating ailments including headaches and migraines. I assume you can get it from health food shops.

Only slightly more than any other time. The last time I got them was during my final exams at Uni (which made revising next to impossible) so it could be the cause.

A neck massage used to really work for me as well. Probably cos it relaxed me. Might be worth a try?

I suffer from crippling migraines from time to time.
Not found anything that works for me, but the best advice I can give is to document when you get them and what you had been doing/eating/feeling etc. Spot the patterns over time and avoid them.

Suffered all my life with severe migraine. No stress and no reason for them though they can be brought on by driving into the sun or drinking red wine at lunchtime. Only thing that cures mine is IMIGRAN. Can only be got under prescription but with fantastic results, relieves symptoms within twenty minutes. Go and see your doctor if you suffer regularly, the cure is there, don't try and put up with it!

There are all sorts of types of migraines, and they are triggered in all sorts of ways, and they can affect people in many different ways. Best advice is to keep a headache diary, try to record, what you have eaten during the day, what you drank, what you were doing when you got the headache, and how long it lasted for, along with any other symptoms, such as auras, hallucinations, numbness, visual loss, temporary paralysis, nausea etc...

If they are persistant, you might need a prescription medication. Drugs like Imigran can be good for some people, whereas, drugs like propanolol can be useful for others. Best advice is to see your GP, but go armed with a detailed description of your problem.

In the U.S severe migraines are starting to be treated with anti- depressants, the chemical changes in the brain that they cause seems to work. They are also being used for sever cases of P.M.S. and some eating disorders.

Not to say that thats necessarily the way to go, just wanted to add the information in-case it my help someone some day.

I've found a really good painkiller is co-codamol - a combination of paracetamol and codeine.

I Have suffered with them since I was 16. I know that I have certain triggers including red wine, Chocolate or milky drinks, apples, usually if eaten before I go to bed. I still get headaches due to missed meals but they are not usually classic migraine style. I normally work shifts and this can cause me to have more headaches than usual. Probably disturbed sleep patterns are to blame here.
As it's been suggested already, keep a diary of foods and headaches and see if a pattern develops.
I've used migraleve which stops me from throwing up and Ibuprofen helps too.

I get them occasionally, almost always after very heavy excercise when I'm not used to it.

That might be due to being dehydrated. I believe a lot of folk get headaches after exercise if they have not drunk enough beforehand.

I get them if I go a long time without eating. Also I find that once I've got one a litre of water and two ibuprofen help.
