Audi S3 Insurance groups
Discussion
Hi, I've been looking into getting an Audi S3 8V (around 2014-16 modle) and after doing some shortlisting I started digging into insurance which seems to be where things get complicated. I found out that what seem to be similar specs (exact same year, model and power etc) the only defining difference was the colour, everything else was the same at least on paper, but the insurance groups were vastly different ranging from a group 22 all the way up to a 39, which as you can guess is making a drastic difference to my insurance premium (around £800 difference between quotes) I can't see this being solely down to the colour myself.
Does anyone know of an explanation to why what seems to be the same car, on paper at least would have such vast differences when it comes to its insurance group? Would appreciate any information anyone may have as I'm very confused to why this would be...
Regards
Brad

I don't think an insurer has EVER asked me for the colour of a car, let alone made a substantial difference to the premium because of it. The only time I can see it being an issue is if one colour option is something like those oily-puddle colourchangers, which could cost a fortune to match.
I suspect there's something more fundamental going on - perhaps the cars which are coming out as a very low group aren't being correctly recognised as S3s?

When I gave the registration of the s3's I had to quote they did reply back 'is that an Audi s3' every time but possibly behind all the systems there may be something...I suspect there's something more fundamental going on - perhaps the cars which are coming out as a very low group aren't being correctly recognised as S3s?

Personally, I found that depending on the comparison website I use, when I put my reg in it’s either classed as an A3 S3 Quattro or a S3 TFSI.
They’re both correct but one comes back pricier than the other. I had a claim with it classed as the “cheaper model” without issues.
Even though there essentially the same vehicle as they both have the same engine etc one is classed as a cheaper modle? Sounds about right to why it's so confusing though. Thanks for the advice anyway 👍🏻
