the diff in my 95 500 is a GKN - it has a clonk so its got to come out. now that diff has the filler on the side of the diff. I have a spare diff which I am getting rebuilt with a lower ratio for sprints but it has no side filler hole - the oil filler hole is on the rear fin instead. I have had a good look and struggle to see how I can fill it from the rear once its in the car. see photo of the rear diff vents/filler hole. does anyone have rear filler hole in a griff or chim and can you fill the diff when its in situ?

or do I need to get the lower ratio innards fitted in the case with the filler hole in the side?

No problem filling with one those pumps [ a bit like a bike pump ] but I doubt if my filler plug had ever been out and spent two days removing it. Make sure you get the plug free before you put the diff back in.

Thanks. I assume a half inch drive can get access between the dins and chassis rail to remove the filler plug?

That's the way mate, mine went back covered in copper grease and plumber's tape; no leakage and comes out no worries.

Thanks. It will save me swapping the innards between the casings
