Type 072 battery
Discussion
My Griff needs a new battery, removed it, label says it’s a type 072.
Go onto Euro Car Parts to get an idea of price and that type isn’t on there listing at all?
Went on eBay, found 072 but the battery dimensions are longer and taller than what I currently have?
I’m now looking at a type 075 which is the same length and width but smaller in height (which isn’t too much of an issue) but the terminals are the other way round.
Just wondering if 072 type batteries are obsolete and have a new type number of which I can’t find?
Any pointers in the right direction please?
Cheers

Just check the power and cca on the type 072 and ensure whatever you buy has equal or more power and cca and it will work fine
It was the physical battery size I’m having trouble with. New 072 don’t seem to match my current knackered 072?The 075 I’m Looking at has slightly less ah but better cca so I’ll probably go for that
The whole point of these batteries being a 'type' is that they are all the same size. A type 072 is 265mm long x 175mm wide and 220mm high, with the +ve terminal at the front left of the battery. Each dimension can vary by a few mm, but not substantially.

A type 069 battery is the same apart from a few mm although the battery terminals protrude from the case and are the tallest part of the battery. The type 072 has the terminal tops level with the cell covers.

They are often sold as interchangeable.
You can use any size, as long as it fits in the battery box (higher than 220mm would be an advantage really!), has round terminals and your +ve and -ve leads will reach.

I totally understand but my knackered battery measures 255mm x 170mm x 205mm high and that just fits inside the fibreglass battery box. That’s why I’m a little confused by the current measurements of a new replacement 072. The quoted measurements are simply too big for the battery box.http://batterylookupgb.yuasa.co.uk/datasheet/downl...

I’m gonna one of my toolmaker mods anyway and also fit an Anderson connector to enable a jump start connection if needed in the future.

Here's a list of all the types. Click on them til you find one that'll fit?

They reckon the correct one for a Chimaera or Tuscan (only TVRs listed!) is the 075 on that site. Small enough but +ve on the right hand side. If you've enough length in the cables it could work.

That’s the type I’ve ordered now. I’m thinking to modify the front of the battery box with the front cut away to slide the battery in or out and a door to secure and then with a fitted shelf above to attach the ecu securely.https://www.tayna.co.uk/Car-Batteries-C48.html

The wiring is plenty long enough to mount back to front or left to right so the terminal position won’t be any issue.
I’ve ruined a few batteries on that car by letting them get too flat over the years, my fault each time due to differing circumstances but now it’s going to be an easy change if it ever happens again
