For £100k? They were £250k 20 years ago I’m sure they were.
From the Mc D's site:Getting started
Restaurants typically cost between £200,000 and £500,000 to buy.
You’ll need to provide 25% of the investment in unencumbered funds upfront – the rest can be funded through a bank loan.
You’ll need to pay a one-off franchise fee of £30,000.
Training costs of around £750.
You’ll need to pay a refundable £5,000 security deposit when you start your training, which we’ll refund when you buy your first restaurant.
Possible with 100k for starters - assuming a bank loan materialises.

There's also a very strict vetting process before you even begin training.
That was from the local franchisee.
Yes it's profitable, it's also very hard work and not for most people.

The training takes a year at least, after which point McDonalds then decide if you make the grade to be allowed a franchise.

I couldn't afford it when I was looking at franchises. All of our local ones are owned by the same guy.
Apparently after he took on his first restaurant in the town centre, McDonalds opened another operated by themselves just up the road! This made it really difficult for him initially, particularly as the McD's owned one was a drive through.
They sold it to the local chap in the end, so I guess it worked out for him. He owns 10 or more now.

Have you looked at sites like Seedrs and Crowdcube or even some of the SME P2P sites like Funding Circle, Rebuilding Society (I'm connected to REBS) etc.
Depending on your skill set the business's looking for equity/loans may not just be looking for passive investors and you could spread your risk. Choose 5 business's and spend 1 day a week on each.

I had a go at REBS a couple of years back after I think I saw you mention it. Have done ok but been hit by a few bad debts lately, overall though a bit of fun and still doing better than money in the bank.Depending on your skill set the business's looking for equity/loans may not just be looking for passive investors and you could spread your risk. Just had a look at Seedrs and can't get my head around it! Companies that don't seem to have done much yet offering single digit equity figures for 6 figure investments that effectively value the business in the millions. Surely on this basis the potential growth has already been priced in and you're betting on the company being the next Facebook type business to see any sort of return?
