I bought some shoes for my children at Schuh today,

We were served by a helpful lad, who haggled with us regarding the price and then took payment via a mobile terminal. We went nowhere ner a till. It was all very informal and an enjoyable experience.

Have we only just become aware of the 21st cetury, or is this service available elsewhere?

I’ve only seen it in schuh in the UK.

Saves the, “i’ll put your shoes behind the counter”, after trying them on and having to queue again.

In some italian petrol stations,a man fills up for you and you also pay him, don't go near the shop.
It's not very common though, most petrol stations have no staff at all and you pay a machine.

Totally common in restaurants.
Why make you queue in shops?

All sounds a bit old-fashioned.

Order shoes online or from a VR store.

This happened to me in the Nike store in Los Angeles a few weeks ago. Salesperson had an iPhone with contactless payment and a slim phone case that printed the receipt, he only walked off to get a bag to out the T shirt in.

Sorry but I find that odd.

I can honestly say I've never had an enjoyable experience in almost every single shop I've ever been in. In fact if you want me to leave a retail store immediately, get a member of staff to ask me 'do you need any help sir'.

Well you sound like a barrel of laughs.

If dealing with a decent person, who isn't trying to hard sell a load of crap, I quite enjoy buying things face to face. It's so much more fun to chat with someone about the product (especially if it's a car smile ) and then finally walk out of the place with the new toy.

Sales tactic. You strike whilst the iron is hot. You give people time to think about it and a percentage will walk. Taking payment there and then reduces the bounce rate.
