I've noticed that there is a reluctance to move into second when the car is cold. Doesn't matter if I use the paddles, what mode the car is in, it sticks in first. I'm reluctant to push a cold engine ( also live in a cul-de-sac often with kids running around) so I don't know if it will budge higher up the revs. It take s a few hundred yards before it will eventually change up.

Has anyone else experienced similar? Not overly concerned at this point, car is still under warranty but i'll keep an eye on it. Good to know if I'm not the only one.

Thanks.

Stupid question warning: what mode is the gearbox in?

I've had a few (6 & 7 speed) and not noticed that before. If anything in drive they shift in to second slightly too soon.

I have a leon Tdi with a dsg box, it likes to stay in 2nd and 3rd if it’s in sport mode, but if it’s in normal it will shift up very quickly and I find it labours a fair bit then.

Is yours in sport mode? If so you can pull the gear selector back to change the gearbox settings, I tend to leave my engine in sport and put the box into normal,

Daily the car stays in D. Sport mode has gear changes far to high up for normal driving and would mask what's happening anyway.

Whether you have drive select in Dynamic, Auto, Efficiency, what ever, it won't change up as you move off. As said, I try the paddles and again nothing happens. Odd.

Perhaps a call to Mr Audi at some point.

(Oh and there's no such thing as a stupid question smile)

Now that is strange.

Is it getting near its 40k oil change? Audi do like releasing software updates for S-Tronic boxes too (RS4s just had yet another update for oddness).

No where near 40k.

I'll keep an eye on it but I think i'll give them a call. Google doesn't bring up much on this type of problem.

Having said that, Audi mailed me with all the fancy garb on the new RS3. scratchchin

Mine does exactly the same ... different car, but same gearbox I'm guessing (2015 6-speed DSG and petrol).

When it's cold it'll stay in first until around 2.2-2.3k rpm, always found it a bit odd when pulling away from the house up to the first junction and it's still in first when its usually in second if warm. As soon as I've been up the road and stopped again it'll change up as normal.

My only guess is that it's some safety thing they've put into the box to not labour the engine when cold - those DSG boxes have a ridiculous amount of programming in them.

My mk6 gti does this, only the first time it changes gear from cold. Never bothered me - thought it was by design.

I have a 6 speed dsg edition 35, it does exactly the same.
