Sportex Upholstery Experiences
Discussion
Could I ask for the views of those who have specced Sportex upholstery is it as good as/better/worse than leather ? What are pros/cons and any regrets in having it ? I have ordered a BGTS and have specified Sportex. Before I get howls of protest I have not gone for the GTS pack because I don't want a black interior and like the graphite blue/crayon interior package (exterior is Graphite Blue).

I wanted the Black Sport Tex interior option with Black Leather .... But not available without the Silver Stitching ... So have to go with the full Black Leather to get Black Stitching.
To have a Custom Interior would cost £10k plus and take up to 24 Months . Also only available for the Boxter at the moment due to the custom dept being closed until 2018 .

I have Graphite Blue and Crayon Sportex. I really like it. In that colour scheme it has quite a retro feel about it, especially with Graphite Blue exterior and Carrera Sports. I wasn’t sure at first because it was part cloth, which I thought would feel cheap compared to full leather. However, I don’t think it feels cheap now I have it. The two-tone Seats really sold it to me in the end. The fabric itself is quite taught and fairly tough and grippy. For me, it’s preferable to Alcantara, which I don’t like at all. Too early to give any feedback in terms of wear and durability . I do find them a bit more comfy than the full leather ones though. I kept the standard silver trim, not sure how well it would work with the same standard GTS interior trim. I also have the standard wheel as the centre is Graphite Blue whereas the GT wheel centre is black regardless of interior colour choice, which looks a bit odd. I don’t like the look of the GT wheel in any case do no loss for me there.
I've specced it on my 911 order. We saw it on a Cayman in the showroom and the contrast between the leather and the material, plus the contrast stitching lifted the dark interior. It felt pretty similar to the seats on a little Swift Sport I run....don't laugh.....and that is wearing very well.
i have Sportex and like it.
However - i’m not sure if the seat size is different to he leather options in 718, but i find them uncomfortable after about 30 minutes. So take a long test drive.
I had no issues with my previous boxster and cayman which both had leather seats.
Maybe you’ve got a skinnier backside than miine... let’s not compare pics online... 40 inch waist :-)

My big issue with it is that is is a bit unknown and will people think it's a cheap base spec cloth seat?
I know it looks great but I wouldn't want to explain it to everyone who sat in the passenger seat!
It's a fact of life (well fashion to be more correct) for leather seats to be highly regarded in cars - despite the fact that it really isn't a very good material for cars - hot in summer, cold in winter and (important for sports cars) slippy all year round. Until the world wakes up to this fact you will be undoubtedly be regarded as a cheapskate by many for specifying cloth (whatever Porsche may choose to call it). And some of the rest of us would jib at paying over the odds for a cheaper material. Then again you might make exactly the same argument for alcantara (faux suede).I know it looks great but I wouldn't want to explain it to everyone who sat in the passenger seat!
