Best cars for banger money
Discussion
I had a focus estate from a mate for £200. It had done over 200k but it was more economical and more fun than my current a3. Shame it had a fault and kept going into limp mode. Nail in the coffin was when a foreign wagon driver hit it one morning going work.
Still sold it for £100 few months cheap motoring

I like the idea of a regular Bangernomics feature...
I have three suggestions:
Tatty MX5 1.8S. I bought it for under £200 with rusty arches and sills and spent a Sunday welding on some bits of arch and plates on the sills. We used it all Summer, the roof was rarely up. We did a couple of trackdays. I flogged the private plate for more than I paid for the car and then sold the car to a guy who wanted to use it for a few months then build a MNR kit from it. The profits paid for the track brake pads, used semi slicks and the MOT!
BMW 325TI. I bought it for £700 with a short MOT and totally Donald Ducked rear shocks. I bought some cheap shocks and changed the oil. I used it all Winter and had great fun. It never missed a beat. I flogged it in the Spring for £200 more than I paid.
Toyota Corolla T-Sport. I paid £600 for it. Mechanically and structurally there was nothing wrong with it. The previous owner had decided to gut it to lighten it. When the MOT expired, I decided to use it as a track day car. It's now got nice brakes, camber bolts, Federal RSRs and harnesses and it's an absolute blast on track (for a front wheel drive). I've often thought that an unstripped T-Sport would be an excellent banger daily driver.
