Hello,

Does anybody here know how long a 5-cylinder whiteblock engine is?(or "modular engine" as it's called in wikipedia)

Also, are there any major differences between 4 and 5 cylinder engines(other than the cylinder count), like bellhousing bolt pattern?

I would like to use one for a swap(there are a lot of them here, in eastern europe), as finding a tunable japanese engine is quite hard(and even then they aren't cheap).
The idea is to use a BMW gearbox(GS6-53DZ is 100 euro here) with a KLRacing adapter and use it in a RWD chassis, but that RWD chassis has a 67-68cm long engine bay(not including radiator or anything) so a 5-cyl might not fit.

Its slightly longer than the 4 cyl and slightly shorter than the 6 cyl...

The 680mm space you have will be tight for a 5 cylinder I think. I'll try and measure a block/head I'll have about.

Assuming you mean the older n and rn engines.

The whiteblocks all share the same bellhousing pattern.

The main differences with the 4, 5 and 6 cyl (I own versions of them all) are the 4 cylinder engine has the oil cooler take off under the crank pulley, the 5 and 6 cylinder versions have the oil cooler at the rear of the sump.

The 4 cylinder has a mounting under the cam pulleys whilst the 5 and 6 cylinders are all mounted underneath.

Of course theres the other issues with shimming liners, turbo returns (or the blanking of them) etc etc.

Thanks.
Is the 5-cyl more than 23 inches long?

I only had time to measure the spare T4 engine and from the end of the cam sensor at the back of the head to the plastic cambelt cover was 56 cm roughly

So the T4 will even leave a bit of space.
Nice.
Thank you.
