Do know your blood group, and do you donate it?

I haven`t got a clue what mine is but my wife who donates every 4 months has "A+" which is useful for small babies apparently

If you don`t, what are your reasons? Needles?

The reason is .. I'm a coward and hate Medical things... especially needles!

Must have donated gallons to the soil of Northants Rugby pitches over the last 16 years. Was advised not to while still playing, apparently if you have a bad injury and lose a load shortly after donation it could get quite serious.

I would but i'm not allowed to, mrs006 is HIV positive so it's too much of a risk for me to donate blood.

Can't donate as had major transfusion during "At risk time period" for BSE. Which is nice!

Only 'reason' I don't donate more regularly is convenience. I have been (twice) to try to donate during a lunch hour only to be told that the wait is and hour and a half.

As a result I tried to convince the local Blood Bank come to our offices but they wouldn't as too small (70 employees).

I HATE needles and can't even watch Casualty without feeling queasy and leaving the room (much to the amusement of my daughters) and yet I've managed to donate 47 x 500ml since I was 18. I just look away and think happy thoughts!!!

Seriously though, I know some people might find it hard to do, but blood has to come from somewhere and it's a bit selfish to expect others to give when YOU need it and not give yourself........

Seriously, O neg is pretty highly sought after, as anyone can receive it.
I used to donate blood and more latterly platelets, but can't for another 6 months as I had a piercing. Come October I'll be giving some of my O neg platelets again .

No, although I've asked on many occasions, I know my blood has been tested and matched at least twice, but my doctor won't tell me my blood group. He's the third I can remember asking, and even when I've explained that I wanted to put it on my crash-helmet to save time in an accident, it was refused.

Maybe they should work on synthetic blood which has some oxygen-carrying capacity...? Heck, it would have such a market it would be worth figuring out how to make real haemoglobin. An iron atom surrounded by a tetrapyrrole porphyrin ring - how hard can it be...?

(plus if you tip magnesium in the blender instead of iron, you get chlorophyll)
