Xbox steering wheel options
Discussion
Hi all,
As my sons and I like playing forza and f1, contemplating getting a wheel and pedals for the Xbox one. Any recommendations? I did try searching but everything was 5 years old! Don’t want to spend a fortune but want something decent, kids are 8 so don’t want anything I’ll regret buying if they wreck it.

The Thrustmaster has great FFB and you can buy a $50 adapter that lets you use Fanatec pedals with it. But you have to be Ok with the fact that it’s a 7/8ths scale 458 wheel, and they are notorious for having the internal power supply die after ~14 months. (That happened to our review unit.)
The Fanatec CSW + Xbox One rim is great, but bloody expensive and can be a pain in the arse to set up and troubleshoot, particularly if you have a Mac and not a PC. I think there’s also a cheaper Fanatec that’s XBone compatible.
The Logitech G920 is my default recommendation because it’s a third of the price of the Fanatec and not bad at all. FFB isn’t as strong, and the pedals are a bit crap but everyone other than Fanatec has that problem IMO.
There’s also a wheel from MadCatz, or at least there was. It’s not very good and I don’t know if they still sell it but I wouldn’t buy one.

The Fanatec kit is great and solidly built but will probably be more than you want to spend... for example, I've got the CSL Elite Wheel Base and CSL P1 Wheel (Black Friday deal last year) and these currently retail for 420 Euros. I already had a Fanatec setup for the 360 and was able to still use the pedals with the new wheel.
Just as a useful aside, there is now a solution to the rather poor showing of making old wheels incompatible with new consoles.

This means that all major wheels could be compatible (meaningfully) with PC, Playstation and Xbox

I have a G920 however at the weekend I had a go on a Thrustmaster TX in a shopping center demo booth. A lad is picking up my G920 tonight and my TX wheel, shifter and T3PA pro pedals are enroute for delivery tomorrow. In my opinion the G920 is a great starter wheel but the tech is old making the wheel a bit clunky, the TX seemed so much smoother and a better experience and the fact you can swap out rims to a Rally one and an F1 one is fantastic and adds to the experience and immersion.
