Ditching a new website
Discussion
Have any of you ever done this? We have a new site which is average/poor at best and support for the site, in terms of improvements I need, to make is absolutely s
te.
I joined the company just after the site was launched and so have a 'poisoned chalice' which I am working towards ditching but its not easy to come in and ditch a multi thousand pound website.

no, because we write our own websites
however we are often involved in creating client sites where they are in that situation (i.e. previous shiny new website which doesn't do what the business requires and which we need to replace...)
a lot will depend on the code / the purpose / the faults / the business needs / etc. - but we will always look first to see if we can use what is there as a basis for tweaks rather than re-writing or replacing... whatever we do, we start with an understanding of and analysis of the commercial needs of the business so that there is a clear commercial case to make changes...

I've been on the other side; commissioned to deal with poorly produced sites (normally done internally to save money).
What areas are substandard? Design? Navigation? Content?....etc.
I'd work up a pros and cons assessments - the benefits and costs of repairing compared to a complete ground up revamp. Then present both to enable you to argue your preferred route.
