Hey guys caught the end of talk on the radio today warning about new speed cameras on the M4-missed the bit saying where (if they said that anyway). I did get the bit though where they told everyone that they are set for 80 or over so keep it to 79!!!

Between J14 and J18 both ways. Not too sure if they are Gatsos and Mobile.... Pretty sure the 1Km bit is for Mobiles only. Tried to find out exactly where on the streches they are but not sure yet. Its only in Wiltshire at the moment.

If this news makes you want to cry (and it should to any petrolhead) This link will make you positively weep if they get away with it. (Press the NEWS link from the home page)

Election time is nearing ,maybe the best time to ask questions of your local reps.

I saw a mobile set up near me so i went and chatted to the controller of the tri-pod mounted contraption, fair enough he was quite open so i watched for a while, these things can pick you up from quite a distance, and if you are going the other way and think ime ok its on the other side, think again,he demonstrated that it also picks up on the cars speed going away from the camera.

As they say, it doesn't seem speed is the real issue, its the drongos that don't pay attention, driving to close, hitting things on the hard shoulder. It seems there are a number of 56mph behemouth drivers (not all of them mind) that are particularly good at wandering over white lines and driving their machines nose to tail. And I'd just liket o say thank you to the pair that overturned on the A1 near St Neots yesterday. I enjoyed being stuck on the A1 for 40-50 minutes going nowhere.

Anyway, it's all just revenue generation and of course it'll hit the more law abiding of us, those who register, tax and insure their cars. Yet another gulf opens up to the adavantage of the criminal.

Waste of time. They'll say whatever you want them to say to get your vote, then do the complete opposite if they're told to tow the party line/need to raise revenue/further their careers/get into their secretary's knickers (in both senses!). Democracy? Bollox. On 05.05.05 just remember who it is that's most anti private transport, who has done sweet FA about getting goods off of the roads onto the rail, who's got more broken promises that a rampant teenager with a matress in the back of his van, who's put insane taxes on a cheap fuel (Diesel), hitting those who were conned into getting "cheap to run" diesel cars & the haulage industry & also increasing the cost of goods that need transporting, who has given us the most expensive fuel ever (so what if the price of crude is high, check out the tax on it), who repealed the previous self-serving rabble's idea of free road tax for vehicles over 25 years old, who scuppered the road building plan, who wants to cover the countryside in new houses with stuff-all extra infrastructure, who it is that's trying to get us all used to the idea of road tolls (even though we paid for the things in the first place), who it is that is subsidising privately owned public transport companies with our money so that they can give a dire service & still pay their executives & shareholders handsomly, who it is that's overseen the neglect of the roads (even the roads in Thailand have a better surface), who it is that is painting red lanes on OUR roads to reserve lanes for the use of privately owned bus companies so that they can use them to make a profit, while all the rest of the traffic is snarled up so that the rarely seen bus can avoid the congestion that the bus lane has caused (check out Farnborough in Hants), who introduced congestion charging in London (increasing costs for business)& wants to introduce it elsewhere, who's overseen covering the roads with humps & bumps to slow traffic down & also completely bugger up people's suspension (or even write off entire cars by being high enough to hit the chassis when a fat person (can I still say that?) is in the passenger seat!) & also cause massive pollution from cars slowing down/accelerating repeatedly (or is that a clever ploy to make us but more petrol?), who spouts on & on about using public transport but did nothing when a train company said that it didn't see the need to invest in a direct link between Camberley & London, who's suggested conjestion charging for Heathrow even though there isn't any decent public transport from this area (where many Heathrow workers live), etc, etc, etc. If any of them turn up on my doorstep wanting to kiss any babies then they can kiss my arse (& they still wouldn't get my vote).
There's nothing we can do about speed cameras anyway. If Labour get kicked out then the next rabble aren't going to rip them out & lose all that glorious revenue, they'll just do the normal sympathetic looks & blame the previous lot (while quietly installing more & blaming the previous Government for agreeing to them). All that can be done is the normal English reaction of having a nice cup of tea, a sit down & a biscuit This is one area where I admire the French. If they're upset then they blockade ports & burn lorry loads of British Lambs. We should Blockade motorway service stations (that way we wouldn't inconvenience anybody) & burn lorry loads of speed cameras.
I blame Jeremy Clarkson (well, why not?).
Chin up chaps, mustn't grumble

I've driven down the M4 regularly over the last 15 years, I drove along it yesterday & I have never seen such poor driving (sometimes myself included), all the cars were travelling at around 75mph.

I would wager that many of these people, myself included were driving but watching their speedo too much trying to keep within the limit.
