Hello

I have a W205 C220d.

Not the most fascinating of cars but it's a company car so I could do worse.

Anyhow, my problem is it steams up like a turkish sauna in the cold weather, which is more prevalent now.

I obviously use the heater and set it to the de-mist setting to point all the warm air at the windscreen, but it still doesn't really clear and the rear side windows steam up too.

1. Am I being an idiot and using the heater controls incorrectly? I have the temp set at 22 degrees, should it be higher? Car feels very very hot inside if I go warmer.

2. Or does it sound like something's wrong with it? I can feel warm air coming out of the dashboard nearest the windscreen but it just doesn't seem to clear the 'screen.

I recall an incident last winter on a very cold day where even after a 15 minute drive with the blowers on max at the windscreen, it still wouldn't clear....

Flippin' annoying so any advice before I potentially waste my time at a dealer would help.

Make sure you’re not on recirculate and turn the AC on, maybe check that the carpet isn’t wet anywhere?

As above really, a 205 should have no issues.

Set the controls to Air Con on and Auto. Let the car sort it out itself.

As above, make sure both AUTO and A/C are on. It should clear very quickly.
Leave these two on and simply adjust the temp for comfort.

I had this on a one year old VW Golf I had a few years ago. I found 6” of water in the spare wheel well. VW swapped the car out as I had o key just bought it. Check for leaks!

Remember the climate is also a dehumidifier, these cars are designed for them to be on, turn them off and it will steam up.

Bread knife has the same car in an estate form, and I have the same problem. Its really annoying as there is a constant haze on the inside of the screen at this time of year. A blast of the demist button sorts it out for a bit but makes you sweat!

I've put it down to poor ventilation design.

It could also be the cabin filter, I've had this happen in my old W210. The old filter was so clogged that the fan couldn't pull air through it.
