Now the boys are grown up i can finally get something with 2 seats and the hunt is on for a weekend coupe that me and the misses can use for drives out in and some touring of our great country.

I have made a list of possibles so far...and only stipulation is it must be a auto and be reliable (as can be expected)

Jaguar xk (reliable?)
Audi tt
Bmw z4 3.0i coupe (i like these a lot)
Porsche cayman 2.7 (plenty of power for me and less engine issues and again i like)
Toyota gt86 (enough power?) i am no race driver but will i want more?

Have i missed anything?

Budget is up to £20k but im thinking spend less and have some tucked away for any problems i may occur,i hope to keep the car i finally choose for some time as i dont like chopping/changing if/when i find something i like..

thanks

The XK would be reliable at that point price
Cayman would get a decent 987.2 for that money without the engine issues.

Some wuite different cars on that list. The two above are chalk and cheese for instance

Technically 4 seats but how about a Monaro? It’s a coupe and a great weekend muscle car.

Yes they are different for sure but they are coupes and something above the mundane saloons/estates that i would usually drive...

I will obviously go and drive the ones i am most interested in but while i do enjoy driving as long as it drives well enough thats fine with me,reliability is a major factor.

I had planned to test the new mazda mx5 but then saw the rf which i like more....

And the Boxster looks great value at the moment being cheaper than the equivalent aged and spec`d Cayman but i am not sure about a fabric roof, where as the Merc slk does have the hard top..

What convertibles have you in mind?

Boxster

Audi tt (not 2 seats but whatever)

gt86 - I like these but I would

z4

do they do a auto mx5 ???

my choice though would be the link below, kinda a coupe not 2 seats as such but a genuine useable car, not fast but nice drive etc :

personally id be getting a convertible if its not main car. makes it a little more different.

I did say 2 seats as many coupes dont have back seats big enough to sit on anyway and as long as there is room for some luggage thats fine....yes the new mx5 and rf do come in auto..

you would be surprised how sound a fabric roof is. Security wise if someone is willing to slash your roof they will be equally likely to smash a window.
I have never driven one but feel the TT doesnt suit being a convertible.
I would go MX5, Z4 or Boxster
The only one I have had was a MK3 (NC) mx5 2l sport, loved it, went round europe in it, enough luggage space for 2 weeks, You could dip your toe in the water and get a very decent one for 6 to £7 k. Buy privately, many are loved, cherished and underused,

The RF can be had as an auto but not the standard MX5. Not in the UK anyway

joe5y i was looking at these in the classifieds yesterday......

Loskie i do like the mk3 shape and they seem good value....

craigjm This is a auto mx5 https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

ZX10R NIN thanks for your input

The maserati scares me and having owned my Alfa 156v6 for many years with little issues i think my time is up running something italian without big bills..nice though

CL500,G37 and SLK350 are interesting though and even without the amg kit i do like the SLK but not keen on the 650 or S5 and looking in more detail at the TT i have ruled that out..

thanks guys

Good shout and don`t they look good still but a little while ago a friend and i bought a Porsche 928s as joint ownership and it bit us hard financially (he still owns it after spending a fortune) so finding a good 8 series may be a similar experience...

Just looked at some ads and i must admit they still look great..
