My uncle wants to buy an early 80's SC or 3.2 for about £6k. He doesn't mind if it's a bit tatty or requires light bodywork repair as he knows someone who can sort that, as long as it's sound mechanically, RHD and not a Targa. Is this realistic and are there any other good places to look - apart from the usual Ebay/Autotrader/PH classifieds ?

Unless he has his lucky shoes on its normally gunna be a bit ropey at that end of the market esp for a 3.2 you can be very lucky but you really do have to know your 911s to make a good call.

Having said that even ok early SCs are only a couple of £k over & I know a chap whso picked up an average example on an early 180SC with no major horrors for £7k.

Thing to be aware of is just how much it can cost to put right a ropey car, I looked at an SC late last yr up at £7k & it realy was awful, beyond awful really, needed engine & box rebuild & had perhaps the worst body work work id ever seen on a galvansied 911, to get the car to a good level would have taken an easy £15k.....

The real bargains are somat like a solid 2.7lux with a blown engine, very undesireable car in 911 terms, but you could bung in a 3.2 lump etc easy enough & have adecent little 911 for very little.

Hi Andy,

My own 1981 SC may be suitable......
I've owned it for 10 years, 145000 miles with good mechanics, full service history with bills.
Excellent dark blue leather / Porsche logo electric interior.
The light metalic blue paintwork is rather "tired" but not rusty! It really would benefit from a respray!
Excellent Fuchs alloys etc.

Please contact me via my profile if you wish to see it.
