Training with an inguinal hernia
Discussion
Hi all,
I've been diagnosed with an inguinal hernia. From what I understand from the GP some people choose to simply live with them whereas others seek surgery. Either way, I'm stuck with it for a while.
I currently train using free weights a few times a week, concentrating on compound lifts. I guess this is now out of the question, but what about more isolated stuff at a lighter weight? I don't want to be stupid or risk making the problem worse but can't bear the thought of being idle.
Anyone have any knowledge or experience of this?
Thanks

I am thinking about that doc. I've heard suggestions that breathing out during a light lift to avoid a build up of pressure or straining will decrease any risk, but presumably the risk of making things worse remains?
As an example, how much risk is there from doing flat bench at a light weight, concentrating on breathing and taking care to isolate the chest/shoulders/tris?
