Hi there.

I’ve bought a pair of Phillips H7 dipped headlamp bulbs marketed as 150% brighter than standard. Intention is to install in a 2007 Boxster, possibly with higher wattage main beam bulbs (not bought those yet). These are halogens and not HID/Xenon.

Just a thought - are these uprated bulbs likely to run hotter than standard and am I therefore running the risk that the headlamp lens might discolour or even melt ?

Does anyone have any experience of Fitting these 130%-150% brighter bulbs and are there any downsides ?

Thanks.

I have fitted them to my Van, wifes and daughters cars without issue, not needed on the Porsche, and they do seem better than standard.

I fitted tese previously (and others, like the night eaters) - no issues from the heat, and the light cast was better.

(But ultimately I moved onto HID's for another notch up again)

Don't run higher wattage or you may burn the lense.

There is a legal limit to the wattage for road use and retailers are not permitted to sell bulbs above this.

150% brighter road bulbs do not use more power (in watts), they simply produce a brighter light and should not damage the lens.

I've run plenty of these +100% etc in the past. It's not hard to go on to the usual bulb websites punch in your fitment and find 100w bulbs. Quite easy for somebody who is not aware to buy the wrong ones if you just skim read the web details.

Fitted Philips 130+ to my 996, they still aren't very good frown

No lens damage though.

Fitted some Ring dipped beam to my Clio, noticeable improvement, really must change the high beam too.

Thanks everyone.

The Phillips bulbs I’ve bought are standard 55w but apparently give off more light than standard units.

Funnily enough, this technology only seems to be used in the dipped lamp bulbs. The main beam bulbs all appear to be standard light output with the only variables being colour or alternatively higher wattage. Maybe I’ll plumb for a whiter main beam bulb but stay with standard wattage.
