I think my car is running really rich.
Discussion
Does anyone know how to set up the mixture on these cars? The car is a decat and since it was done seems to be running really rich, it smells rich all the time and the mpg has gone through the floor, now only getting about 15mpg on a steady run.
If anyone could help me out that would be great. I take it its a laptop and a throttle pot issue?
Cheers,
Nick

you cant set the mixture, there is no user-adjustable control. changing the cats to decat pipes does not affect the mixture control either.
I would say it's entirely coincidental that the increase in consumption has happened, or they disturbed a lambda sensor wire whilst doing the decat exchange.

I thought the same of mine not to long ago, turned out to be a minute split in the fuel line, the one that feeds the injector rail. It was just a whisper of a leak but just enough to give that rich running kind of smell. Was spraying all over the exhaust manifold

I saw your post about that and had a check of all my lines. They were all ok.
The MIL light is not coming on so I am sure its just one of those things, maybe a point for the next service.
OK well thanks everyone, seems its just me.
Joos, this MBE ecu thing is not much good for mapping is it, and the TVR diagnostic software is fine for diagnostics but what about mapping ??
You do loads of that kind of thing so how do you get on with mapping the MBE ??
Eddie ive dumped the easymap software as ive been reliably informed.... it's crap!! thats why those maps we saw earlyer looked a little strange. But stick with the diagnostic software and go from there so carry on with the throttle linkage thing ok mate.

I don't remap the mbe tho .. austec do that .. i substitute an emerald ecu in place and map that. much easier!
Took her on a good run this afternoon from Stansted to Heathrow and got, wait for it............24mpg!
I paid particular attention to thr filling of the fuel and made sure I got it as spot on as I could. I also noticed I have a small leak from on of the flanges on the exhaust so I guess thats where the fumes are coming from, job for the weekend!
