Client trying to possibly defraud my account?

I'm a contractor.
Gave notice on old contract (1 week) and invoiced to end of month and worked notice period, they co- incided on same day, nice and neat, clean break, all very well worked out.
Old CEO very odd volatile type of bloke, complete narcissist, took massive umbrage to me leaving, universally hated by virtually everyone in the organisation for his ridiculous and awkward personality and ways.
Had call from Business bank saying that he has called them and tried to claim my entire last invoice back (no reason given), despite it being worked, invoiced, authorised and paid.
I've never ever heard of anything like this, where would I stand legally, surely this is attempted theft of some kind?

The word 'old' is there for what reason?
Because I now have a "new" contract that started the day after my "old" contract finished.The word 'old' is there for what reason?
ETA - that reads REALLY condescendingly, which its not supposed to.

This is true, although I'm not entirely happy about the fact that he actually tried to do it.As an example if I walked into your bank and said:
Hi - Breadvan did a job for me, I've paid him for the work, all was fine and we parted company, but now I've decided I want the money back, can you take it out of his account and give it back to me?
Is there any legal recourse at all?

No, because nothing adverse has happened. If you were bad mouthed and suffered measurable loss because your credit fell. you might have a beef. The bank presumably ignored the bloke.
Gotcha.He did try to sabotage me on a reference though - to the point my new line manager rang me directly and asked if there was anything wrong with him as his reference was the polar opposite of the 3 others he had. I've seen a copy, total fantasy.
