I’m getting my first Porsche Boxster and haven’t got a garage and wondered how they generally fair being outside during the winter?
I’m going to get a quality car cover to use, has anyone got any experience or recommendations of which one to buy?
Thanks

Make sure the drain channels are clear and door membranes are in good condition to prevent any leaks. Clean the roof regularly and if so inclined use a waterproof product such as Fabsil. Like any Porsche make sure the brakes get hot especially on a wet drive to prevent the inner disc face corroding excessively.

If you've got a bit of storage space, or can blag some in a friend or family member's garage/shed, get one of the excellent hardtops. Few hundred quid on ebay. Doesn't have to match. A black HT (fairly common) looks good on any colour, as it just looks like the hood from a distance. If you get a car in toothpaste turquoise or custard yellow, you could be waiting forever for a colour match. Or, buy a HT of any colour and get it wrapped.

A good outdoor cover was all mine needed for 5 winters and there was never a problem with water intrusion with the Noah fabric cover I had. Folded into a bag that fit in the frunk. I had as much as a half meter of snow on it, ice and wind. They even sell locking cables so no one rips the cover off though I never used mine.

Mine has been sitting outside for 9 years and not a single issue. Clean and proof the roof using Autoglym products once a year and keep the drains clear. If your door membranes are shot, you will have wet lower door panels after any rain. As a previous poster said, make sure that they are dry!

Mine lives out most of the time (it's under cover at work sometimes, depending on where I park). I've had no related issues. Watch out for car covers because, with the best will in the world, any dirt on the car when it's put on will act like sand paper on the bodywork as it moves in the wind.

On the upside, being outside means it's always ready for a drive without faffing getting it out and then back into the garage. The same applies to covers. Lack of use does far more damage than the elements in my experience!

Agree. It's a Sportscar from a premium manufacturer, not a kit-car. Keeping the drain holes clear and keep the roof in good condition is all that's needed. I clean and waterproof mine once or twice a year. In the last 10 years I have owned 4x 986s and all have been mainly left outside. Never had a problem with any water ingress.
