Ok so;

Looks like EA are sniffing round this, so instead of annual FIFA/Madden etc you'd pay for a continuously updated game, on a monthly fixed fee.

Now i'm no big EA fan at all, however I feel mixed on this one, there are some games I think may work well, and others not so much.

Could you see yourself paying £9.99 a month for FIFA?

Wouldn't make sense for me. I have a lot of games I dip in and out of, I might not play Rainbow Six Siege for 6 months, then pop it in and play it for a few evenings. Would it be the case where I have to cancel, subscribe, cancel, subscribe etc depending on how much I get to play?

This is inevitable when internet speeds become fast enough and everything can be done through 'as a service' which by its nature is a subscription model. PlayStation won't be a physical console - rather an app on your TV.

iRacing is via subscription.

I'm happy paying. 2 years subs is equivalent to a night out with the Mrs and I know which is more fun.

Not sure I'd pay £10 a month for a single game, but there's certainly a market for 'Netflix for Games'. I had a trial of Xbox Game Pass and it wasn't quite there, works well enough, but the games were old (mostly 360 games) and very limited, but then so was Netflix when it started.

A quick look on their site says it's £20 a year / £4 a month for all the games in the EA Access collection, including FIFA 17, Battlefield 1, Star Wars battlefront. Am I missing something or is that astonishingly good value to get to play games?

Can't see Steam going down this route on PC, I think their business model revolves around people like me buying games in the sale and never playing them!

I'd happily pay a monthly fee for a constantly updated game, currently do with War Thunder premium, used to subscribe to WoW and Eve Online. I however wouldn't want to pay a monthly fee on a game that they are also expecting a full price (£40-50) purchase and microtransactions for. I would also be very reluctant to give my money to EA. I try to avoid their games on principle unless it is one of particular interest to me.

Yep, thats all old catalog stuff now, what i'm talking is paying a subscription per title for new releases, so instead of a FIFA19 you'd just have a pay-per-month for FIFA.

Not keen on this, I like to know how much I'm going to be paying for a game beforehand. Currently Steam is great for me - buy the game I'm interested in (usually when it's on sale), knowing that if I play for less than 2 hours and don't like it I can always request a refund.

I did subscribe to Eve Online for about 6 months, but the trouble is I only played it for the first 3 months then lost interest. This generally sums up my approach to gaming these days, nothing tends to hold my attention for that long. Because of that I don't like the idea of a continuous subscription.

And as for microtransactions in games... furious
