One of the last enormo beasts of the criminal bar. He was in every case worth mentioning.

A ripe old age.
But he was a communist sympathizer who tried to help George Blake in court, one of the biggest spy traitors in British history whose treachery killed many agents at the height of the Cold War, and applauded Blake's escape from justice after he jailbroke to the USSR. He was a beast, but not in a good way.

I've never heard of him, but if you don't like him, I know for sure he was a good bloke. Of course he tried to help George Blake in Court. That was his job.But he was a communist sympathizer who tried to help George Blake in court, one of the biggest spy traitors in British history whose treachery killed many agents at the height of the Cold War, and applauded Blake's escape from justice after he jailbroke to the USSR. That you say 'biggest spy traitors' suggests you don't grasp what WE were doing too? Or the impact on OUR agents treachery to those that met them.
We all did it. It was THE GAME. At the time.
However, he led the way in that he was of a time that required debunking of stupidity, silence, single thought and subservience.
I was also privileged to hear him speak, a few years ago now.
But, as I actually remembered it, probably better for me than he.
Right Man, right time.

This article was amended on 16 November 2017. George Blake, described as the “atom” spy, was not in fact concerned with nuclear secrets. Jeremy Hutchinson joined the House of Lords in 1978 rather than 1979; the split in which four Labour MPs left to found the Social Democratic party came in 1981 rather than 1979. The article was further amended on 20 November 2017. Clive Bell was an art writer rather than an artist. It was not the case that the barrister James Burge did not take silk: he became a QC in 1965. Hutchinson took silk in 1961 rather than 1960.
Shurely shome mishtake.... hicYipper said:
