Brousing the ol' interwebs, noticed theres very few vts' for sale, even the lesser vtr's are getting scarce. I remember when these were a few hundred quid, a friend had one with 60k miles bought for £300. Now this ones on £2,500 reserve not met! Is this the start of clean standard ones being worth some money

Probably. They are relatively cheap, and fun in a way that more modern stuff isn't. There will also be loads of now grown up's who had lesser models as part of cheap insurance deals that citroen were running at the time who always wanted one...and who now have the disposable cash to get one.

Interesting people never mention the crashing thing in 106s or 205s - equally flimsy
Today someone mentioned in one of the threads about modern cars and traction control of how aware they were of the flimsy metal work on a 205gti so they drove accordingly. They didn’t crash though. HedgeyGedgey said:

Seems epically expensive considering another poster has bought a 56reg BMW 120DSE 5 door leather winter pack 137k miles one owner for £1.3k. Not really the same league? Saxo vts 7.5secs to 60, epic handling and at every trackday since day 0. BMW 120d, 11secs to 60, not much good for anything other than brand snobbery........Welshbeef said:

Seriously though, I'd rather leave the 120D for someone else and have the Saxo. A 125 coupé or 130i for 1.3k and I'd be up for that

Lol 11 seconds to 62mph you are having a laugh. The 120d current shape is a 7.1 second car so to the 60mph which the VTS did in 7.9 seconds with 1 person and barely any fuel in it v 2 up and a full tank says a lot
Even round a track it wouldn’t stand a chance v a 120d. But this is irrelevant.
I preferred the VTR but not the drums instead the VTS came with all round discs which were great. Pepperpot alloys always suited it so well.
But for me the Renault Clio Sport 172 is by far the better choice in every conceivable way - apart from non adjust steering wheel for height.

You cant compare a 90's hot hatch to a modern diesel. The 56 reg car is what you said, i googled 06 120d stats, 11secs is the time. Now whos being irrelevent. I believe vtr's came discs too? I know abs was an option on the vtr so possible that rear discs were too, the ones that friends had certainly had rear discs. I very highly doubt a 120d will be quicker round a track, otherwise track days would be full of them. As a classic point of view, the 172 will never be a classic because the 182 is the better carThe 120d current shape is a 7.1 second car so to the 60mph which the VTS did in 7.9 seconds with 1 person and barely any fuel in it v 2 up and a full tank says a lot

182 v 172 the 172 is a far prettier car it needed nothing adding to it. I loved driving one apart from steering wheel jammed into my legs. https://www.parkers.co.uk/bmw/1-series/hatchback-2...
The 163bhp version was 7.9aeconds and the 1£7bhp Model 7.3 seconds for a 120d SE.
A 116d is 10 seconds with 120bhp and a 116i 11 seconds 113bhp.
So no 11 seconds isn’t the time is 7.3-7.9 seconds which is faster than the VTS and nearly 2 seconds faster than the VTR. Google wasn’t your friend when you searched nearly 4 seconds out.
I’ve mever been to a bring your own car to a track day only track days with circuit cars /non road legal as I personally wouldn’t risk my own car/don’t have one I’d want to play with on track.
