I'm sure everyone seen a video of extreme road rage at some stage, today i got a taste of it myself. Never thought it possible on the basis my commute is all of 8 minutes and 9 roads.

So normal start to the day and taking one of my normal routes to work through the local village, i came down a side street to join the main market street and the traffic was close to the junction but with no cars coming down the road i pulled out of the junction to join the traffic, i'd say worst case i still had one wheel in the junction, sat stationary waiting for the traffic to move when i hear a horn blasting, turn to look and i am now joined by a van (transit tipper) behind me (has come along the main road that i am joining), bloke inside gesturing the wa***r gesture to me, i shrugged it off an turned to face to traffic still waiting for it to move. Next thing i hear is a loud bang, turn to look and the guys punching my drivers window yelling at me to get out and fight him, i'm not the best built of people so had no intention of getting out of the car to take a pasting, at this point the traffic starts to flow again so he gets back into his van and i took a quick picture of his van to get his registration before moving off. next thing i know he's driving alongside me (he's on the wrong side of the road driving toward oncoming traffic) i'm not wanting to sit in traffic again so i turned off in the hopes i can keep moving and get away from him (still heading for my place of work) unfortunately upon approaching the next junction there is a van waiting to pull out the junction so i pull up behind and the man pulls up behind me again gets out and this time kicks my drivers door again yelling at me wanting me to get out and fight him. Like many PH'ers i value my car and like it very much so now i'm reaching a state of panic and thinking if i sit any longer it wont be long before he's doing more damage or smashing a window giving him access to me. so i pull round the van in front who is waiting to leave the junction onto the wrong side of the road so i can pull out and get moving/away - luckily at this point the van driver has seen whats going on and helps me pull out before following me to the trading estate up the road where i pull in and he follows, luckily the guy in the transit tipper (psychopath) hasn't followed or kept up. The guy in the van has luckily agreed to be a witness. so after calming down i called the police using the non emergency number and they've said they will contact me within the next few days regarding the incident.

So now i'm left with a nice dent in my car door (he kicked it on the bump strip mid-door and its dented both above and below nothing major but still more than noticeable). And also wondering what could come of this? I'm guessing the police will aim for a slap on the wrist approach with a caution to the driver or similar and it will be expected ill cover the damage to my car with my insurance (something i wont be doing as it costs enough already). Also now slightly afraid of coming across this man again as my cars rather distinctive and i can only take one of 3 routes to work.

I'd have gone straight to 999

Good luck

This is why my "steering lock" is in easy reach of the drivers seat.

Is tipper even taxed, MoTed and insured? Get RK details from DVLA.

Had a similar issue with a neanderthal who started punching the car window and wanting to fight, had my 6 year old daughter in the car so was not getting into it. Car door damaged and mirror kicked off. I escaped and phoned 999 with the reg number of his vehicle. He was arrested, questioned, bailed and subsequently charged with criminal damage and something else can't remember what but i'm sure it was like an assault charge . Rather than be dealt with at Magistrates he chose a trial, was found guilty and sent down. apparently he was already bound over for similar offences.

I'd have called 999.

Some people are just unhinged.

It’s just not worth it though, you’d end up in the dock if you used that in aggression.

You should have thrown a pie in his face then keyed his van....

If my suspicions are correct he will not be traceable....

Good to hear someone else with a similar experience and it ending with a conviction. The van is taxed mot'd and insured so stands half a chance of being registered to someone or somewhere but I wouldn't be surprised if he is a member of the local traveller community. Haven't heard anything off the police yet and in hindsight I regret not calling 999 but I'll continue updating if/when anything changes

I feel for you, OP. I think I've written about this before (so won't repeat it here), but I had a road-rage incident on my way to work many years ago by a similar neanderthal, but the b4st*rd stalked me for over three months afterwards.

I changed my route to work - he found me and chased me. I changed route again and again, getting more circuitous each time but still he found me. I took the wife's car - he saw me and chased me. Several times I was only saved by the security gates at work denying him access. Sometimes it became a bloody road-race, with Peugeot 305D trying to outrun a Lada 1500 (OK, a slow-motion road-race...)

Then it just suddenly stopped - I never saw him or the Lada again. I often wondered (hoped) if he'd been sent down, or perhaps passed away from the huge blood-pressure problem I witnessed in my mirror!

I would be shocked if he is a , most of them are fairly alright while driving.

Hardly like you inconvenienced him no end.

But you did the right thing. I have been confronted by a guy like this while being a passenger in a car years ago, all I did was wave at him when we left him on a sliproad, and he chased us for miles.

Got out, was shaking fists, literally shaking with rage, thankfully a local came over and told him to stop being a tt, but quite scary for the person that was driving me,a nd over nothing whatsoever.

You never know what drives some people, drugs, gambling, relationships.

The only hope is that one day he tries it on someone who is equally nuts and then spend the rest of his life regretting his decisions.

Any chance of a link to where you posted it? A little bit of stalking on your posts has yielded nothing and I’m interested to read it.

Responding to road rage never ends well. Either you will end up with a car-to-car or a face-to-face confrontation, or you will be fuming and lose concentration and focus for minutes, even days. Part of the enjoyment and the test of driving is ensuring others don't get into a situation of their making. You do not need to add to it.

Sadly there are some genuinely mental types out there, not average angry people who kick off because of something they think is valid but people that will lose their sh!t over nothing.

I've run into a few more mental types but usually there's some exchange of words prior. There was one occasion with some charming traveller fellows who were in a small panel van. Driving like utter morons, overtaking here and there. Next thing you know, glued my rear bumper. I let off the throttle but no braking. That was it, over took me, brake testing me, threatening to get out etc etc.

There are just some very very nasty people out there, rare but they are around. Definitely report it to the police though OP, I'm not surprised you're shaken up.

Hmmm...a quick search only reveals this https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&... from 2010 and not the full-length diatribe. I'm wondering if it was actually on another forum?
TBH - only the boring details are missing anyway. Location (before you ask) was N-E England, Durham - Stanley - Lanchester - Chester-le-Street and all places inbetween.
