Morning all,

Currently looking for a cheapish hatchback and have seen a few of these golfs, with the 170bhp petrol engine (1.4) but in my price range they are hovering around the 100,000 mile area.

Mileage on its own doesn't put me off (I would rather have a slightly newer car with higher miles, then an older low mileage car, for example) but do these small twin charged engines take the miles well? Or are they knackered and expensive to maintain by this sort of mileage?

Thanks in advance for any help smile

Cheers,
James

They are prone to timing chain failure.

Can't recall specifically what went but my fathers hadn't even reached 30k miles and the engine went bang. Repair costs were staggering so had to bite the bullet and sell for spares/repairs.

Too much to go wrong on these engines IMO, aren't they supercharged and turbocharged? Surely the 2.0 TDI's are very similar price wise but way more bulletproof?
