Hi people, I'm looking to buy an automatic car with a high driving position (due to bad knees). I have narrowed my search down to the following cars. Ford C Max, Nissan Quashqai or Mercedes B Class. Looking for 1.5 or 1.6 diesel. I would like to know if any of the auto boxes have any issues. Budget is around 13-14k. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'd avoid the dry clutch Powershift in the Ford, it will judder and will require clutch replacement at some point. They've modified the design several times but the juddering issue still remains.

In what? A Mondeo Vignale? That will be the wet clutch version so a completely different box to the DPS6 in a Focus/C-Max/B-max.

I give up with offering advice of this fking site. I'm a Ford tech, I deal with probably 2 or 3 juddering DPS6 boxes a week through a combination of TCM problems, out of date software, or defective clutches.

You know best though rolleyes

No it's fine, it was my fault for trying to offer constructive advice based on first hand experience smile

I really appreciate your advice especially being a ford technician. Out of the other 2 which would you consider the better. I have just heard about the 8 speed auto in the BMW 2 series.

My personal preference would be the B Class, especially if you have bad knees due to the seating position. You kind of slide across and sit on a B Class driver's seat rather than down and in like you would with most other cars, very practical. Not sure about the day to day living with a Qashqai, although it uses the exact same Renault sourced diesel engine as the Mercedes, so the performance and economy etc should be fairly identical.

The ZF 8 speed in the BMW is a really good 'box; very smooth and with barely noticeable gearchanges. The only one downside I can think of for 2 series though is the fragility of the timing chains on the N47 diesel engine.

rolleyes You weren't specific in what you said, you stated the Powershift gearbox to which I stated mine isn't juddering which it's not, now by being more specific what your saying makes sense.

This is my second Mondeo with the powershift so I was surprised when you said about the juddering as I'd never experienced it.

As for you getting bent out of shape I can't help that a simple they're not the same gearbox would've done but maybe you're having a bad day beer
