Hi all, first post (although longterm visitor) and I've come to pick the hive-mind on SUV options for my father-in-law as he's got some pretty specific requirements due to a disability.

He needs an SUV (or similar) because he's 6'4" and has a muscle-wasting disease which means he can't get out of a normal height car. He's currently got a 2015 Tiguan and that's about as low a car as he can deal with.
He needs an electric tailgate that can be operated either by a button on the boot or from a key fob (not by waving your foot under the bumper - he'll fall over)
Has to be automatic
He does about 7000 miles a year, and is keen on having a petrol although this could be negotiable
He's looking at something either new / ex-demo / near new.
Total to spend is around 24-26k (less would be nice)
Parking cameras would be very good
Heated seats would also be very good

So far I've found the following:
Honda CRV 2.0 EX Automatic (latest version)
Nissan Xtrail (although I don't think you can get a petrol automatic)
VW Tiguan or T-Roc (I believe can be optioned with an electric tailgate), no petrol automatic.

Any other serious contenders out there? Any Landrover based products are not in contention based on previous reliability issues.

He does not need 4WD / AWD, and the only reason he needs an SUV is the height issue.

Thanks in advance!

Peugeot 4008 GT line is much nicer than the kuga, tried both and the 4008 felt much more premium.

New Skoda Karoq might fit the bill, you'll get a new one for that money easy.

The Lexus NX200/300 should work well - petrol hybrid and think they come with/can be optioned with the boot

Would have to be a year or 2 old for budget though.

Don't think we got the 4008 in the UK. I've had a look at the new 3008 that we get here though but I don't think it's high enough for him. Thanks though!

Hey now that's a good call. Didn't know about these. Just went through the Skoda configurator and got heated seats, 1.5 petrol DSG with an electric boot and a few other bobbins for a shade under 27k. Nice one - thanks!

Check out the Kia Sorento and Hyundai's equivalent, both descent kit for the cost.

Nice looking option but I think they'll be out of price range. Seeing them at 25k for a 2015 car which might be a little old for him... however, it's got a certain appeal. Again - I didn't know they made these. Thanks for the input.

Renault Kadjar Signature S Nav

All three are good options all are hard to beat in terms of Spec & Reliability I think the Kia would edge it for me with the warranty & specification it's hard to look past.

After that it would be the Kuga.

Thanks Phil. I think the Sorento is a bit big, but it's made me look at the Sportage (just under 4.5m compared to just under 4.8m for the Sorento) which in kx5 form has all the bells and whistles needed. I think the Hyundai Tuscon can only be spec'd with bells and whistles if it's a diesel, which could be negotiable.

They look like great options. Nice one. Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks everyone for your help. SUVs are not my strong point and Pistonheads has come to the rescue. Your time and effort is very much appreciated.
