Bear with me on this my ex who I get on with has asked for the child support in a lump sum for a car and she is willing to sign a document to say the same.

Would the document be legally binding because the last thing I want is her to get the money then come back after me for more even though we get on now you never know if that will change.

Eta my child will be fine her mother makes enough to feed and clothe her and I pay for additional things too

So your ex wants you to buy her a car?

I’d say I didn’t have the money , she can get a bank loan and use your payments to pay that.
The child support is supposed to support the child , if she comes into financial difficulties (loses job ,gets ill) she will then expect you to pick up the slack. You’d be mad but we all do mad things every day

Defo don't do it, or you will be paying her twice.

Child support relates to the children, not to cars, diamond tiaras, foreign holiday, Louis Vuitton handbags. Politely decline.

Is the current arrangement with the child support formalised by the courts?

From what I Imagine, should she end up in a bad financial situation and changes her tune the CSA wont care if you bought her a car. Best to agree a monthly amount, she then finances a car herself... Amicable or not - like you said, don't forget at one point she was good enough to have a child with and live with - that's already changed!

Wow. You really trust your ex?

Child support is for the child. You are naive even asking if this sounds ok. NO - DONT.

Normally I'd tell her to jog on but it's only 1500 towards the deposit apparently and she argues the car is for taking my daughter to school/swimming/dancing but as this is ph and snakes with tits etc i didnt want to keave myself open the moment i dont pay.

We have a voluntary agreement it's not through the csa etc.

You can tell I think it's a bad idea because I'm asking here hehe

I’m providing my ex with a lease car instead of just child support cash. My rationale is that I’d rather the kids were driven around fast country roads every day in a safe modern vehicle on decent tyres rather than whatever she’s she could afford to buy and run herself. I look at the payments and just consider it the “kids car”. I will probably do the same again when the current lease runs out but I wouldn’t give her a lump sum to buy one with.

I think you made everyone assume the amount was a one off payment to cover up until the child is 18....

For the sake of £1500 just structure it correctly... ie a an interest free loan to her, you pay agreed monthly child support amount to her, and she repays the loan monthly.

Can you afford to lose 1500? If the answers yes then you ve no need to worry,

How many payments of child support is that thou?

Personally if I could afford it then id just hand it over and let it pan out as it will.

If you d of said £15.000 now theirs a different matter.

This reads as if she’s asking for a lump sum to buy the whole car in one, so a lump sum of say £20,000 and that then frees you up from paying child support ever again.

Then you post the below and it’s a figure of £1500,which can't be more than a few months child support, so how quickly do you expect these friendly relations to fall apart?

I'll echo what others have said here and say NO DON'T DO IT.

Why should it be your problem to sort out how your ex gets about?

Fair enough your child is involved, but if she needs money up front then she either gets a car on finance and pays it back using your child support money or saves up for one.

Seen too many posts of people being taken advantage of in situations like this!

I used to get on with my wife for 12 years , Then she turned in to the bh FROM HELL when she met her new boyfriend who lasted 2 months . 20 years on she,s still the same because I,ve moved on and happy. Yes if you asked me that question I would have said do it. But you have split up for some reason, and in a courts view children come first
