Client of mine owes me £19k approximately. Has told me will give me a bankers draft today from NatWest. He has delayed paying this week as claims his wife is in Spain till today and as it is a joint account needs her and him to sign for it in branch. Is this true? He is a serial BS merchant.

Depends on the type of account but if it is a standard joint account then no, it won't need both signatures.

Certainly I know that I could empty out the joint account that I have with my wife, if I wanted to. I mean, I'd only be able to afford a couple of packets of crisps with the amount we put in there being just enough to clear mortgage and bills, but it doesn't need both of us to authorise every purchase.

This document would seem to imply that in some instances you do need both signatories.
