I am looking for car/barge of the estate variety at the moment and have narrowed down my choices to,
Vauxhall Omega 3.2
Subaru Outback 3.0 RN H6
Jaguar x type 3.0 V6 AWD
Volvo 70
Audi A6 / Allroad 2.7 turbo
Any thoughts from the collective? Must be petrol, must be automatec (the wife 🙄), and preferably pre 2006 for cheaper tax. Top budget 2.5k!
Condition more important than mileage.
Any experience on the the above choices greatly appreciated.

Well the V70 will be a sturdy horse

but the subaru will also be a good choice

The only thing with the petrol boxer engine is they can be thirsty

A friend has an old 1994 legacy, the darn thing will not die. The dreaded rust is the problem with it now though but the engine is still sweet as a nut on over 180k and very very very! little servicing (He's got no clue about cars!)

I’ve seen on forums that the H6 is a hardy engine and I used to own a forester sti so not worried about the mpg (hence the choice). The Volvo leaves me a littl cold unless in t5 guise though if I’m honest.

Had a drive in an ex flying squad 3.2 omega today, it certainly flew. Also tried an old e class merc whic felt made of granite until the throttle pedal decided it didn’t want to tel the engine what it wanted the driver to do!

A quick update...
I am picking up a Subaru Outback H6 on Saturday. After being stuck at home due to snow the other week decided a 4x4 was essential in the rare occasion this happens. Found this one which is high mileage but well looked after and a bargain at £2k.
Thanks for the advice all.
