My goal for the moment is to try and get any results from a pre existing test domain.

DirectorySearcher search = new DirectorySearcher("");
DirectoryEntry root = new DirectoryEntry("LDAP://testserveripwashere");
search.SearchRoot = root;
search.Filter = "(user=*)";
SearchResultCollection results = search.FindAll();
adUsers.DataSource = results;
adUsers.DataBind();
resultCount.Text = "" + results.Count;

doesnt error, but doesnt come back with owt either.

More of the today. Trying to update the active directory via a web interface. Of course sods law microshafts .net directory services doesnt provide access to the properties I want to update, so i have to sidestep into old style comobject access for a bit to use one that does support it.

However, authentication seems to be an impossibility for it. I get access denied when trying to update the AD, despite the user account the web interface is running under having admin access on the target domain. Bah. Names copied and pasted, cant see whats going on. Help?

I just thought id reply to myself to congratulate myself on having solved this one. After being told by 3 companies selling specified active directory maintenance products that it couldnt be done, I got it working today. Can now update non-ms supported active directory properties via a web interface.

Now, should I package up my app and compete with the fools who said it couldnt be done

ps. was actually not too bad in the end once i got past the total lack of documentation and inconsistencies between the various interfaces offered.
