Xmas present for partner - Quartz or Automatic?
Discussion
I'd quite like to get my partner a watch for Christmas (ideally around the £1000 mark). I'm looking mainly at Longines & Tags. She likes nice things obviously but isn't specifically 'into watches' like I suspect most on here are. In that respect a quartz model would probably suit her better (set it once & forget it, v low maintenance etc). Also, from my point of view, a quartz would be cheaper.
BUT...I have a nagging feeling that I'm being a bit of a cheapskate (relatively speaking) not shelling out for an automatic version. If it were me, i would want the auto, but that's me. I doubt she would even be aware of the difference between the two (and possibly care even less). But somehow I feel £1,300ish for an auto is better 'value' than £1000 for a quartz.
What do you reckon?

Why not just get her the nicest one you can for your budget; does it matter if it's an automatic or quartz? It's probably like the diesel/petrol conundrum in that most people would be happy with a nice new car regardless of which pump it drinks from and they wouldn't necessarily understand the difference if you told them?
A quartz would probably be less hassle and more accurate to boot?

Ha, yeah I'm probably overthinking it! Leaning strongly towards the Tag Carrera Auto because I know she really likes it (top of the budget typically). But she might find an auto a bit irritating (she can't wear watches/jewellery at work) so probably quartz would be more sensible. But since when has any watch purchase been sensible?
Brand - that may be an issue so only get a brand she likes.
Quartz - generally speaking, women just want a watch they can pick up and go. Similarly, most women just want a fridge-freezer that can take the kids to school and park itself. Mention "oversteer" and they will probably think you're asking for some kinky bedtime action.

If she’s not really into watches, then the brand name shouldn’t be a major consideration, it’s whether she’d like the aesthetics enough to wear it regularly.

Thanks for these, got to say I'm not really up on women's watches at all, so interested to see what's out there. She isn't really a 'girly girl' (despite my best efforts) and from what I can gather from her reactions to my own watches, she's only really commented positively on models that are the absolute classic/plain shape for wristwatches (think Rolex Air King, Seiko Sarb 033, Tudor Oyster Prince). Hence the Tag Carrera, Longines Conquest etc.
That said, I've known her two years & when asked if she had a watch, I was told yes, she's does, but it's 'broken'. It needs a new battery.
I think quartz is probably the way to go, though that does limit my options somewhat (just seen the womens quartz Omega Aqua Terra, but at £1800 that is really pushing the budget). This is probably my own brand awareness/loyalties coming through though - I would love to be given an Omega. I guess an Omega would hold a bit more value than a 'lesser' brand watch for £800/1000 though.
Been reading the thread about asking for discounts in Jewellers with great interest!

How about this one? Seems like quite a good deal and one which I'd be seriously tempted in if I didn't just buy a Tudor black bay black.

Automatic and a large fashion brand, win win? It is men's, buy only 40mm, and with the large watch trends she could pull it off??
ETA - my ex used to make a habit of wearing my watches, only annoying this was that some of them she pulled off better than me.
