Hi all

2010 997.2 C4s - living in the depths of the countryside, I occasionally put £20 in the tank locally when the fuel light comes on, just to tide me over until I can get to a decent garage and fill up. However I've noticed that the fuel gauge (and range) doesn't go up unless I fill her up.

Asked the local OPC to sort it under warranty, they're telling me the fuel gauge doesn't go up unless you put 30+ litres in?

Is it me or is this nonsense? Usually I always fill up, but we all run low now and again - anyone else had this?

So does that mean it shows empty but will still actually have 30 litres in it. You could test that by seeing if its true.

I had heard the last 1/4 tank is calculated as on the 4S it has saddle bags that can't be calculated to work out how much fuel is left. IBA had issues where filling up doesn't always show a full tank. Only advice is just to do a full tank when you get down to a 1/4 really

The 4wd models have a saddlebag System so usually need at least £25-£30 deepening on how low it was to start.
If you leave the ignition on then just watch the gauge as you fill up and will ping up so you don’t get back in with the fuel light still on!

As others have noted, this is normal behaviour for a 4wd variant.
Tank design around the front dif and drive shafts means you have a big dead spot in gauge readings. (and range indication too)

The gauge only measures the top half of the tank so below half is calculated so if you dont fill over 50% the car doesnt know its been refueled.
Always thought it was crap on mine and only afflicts C4 bodied 2 or 4wd.

It's normal. Same with our 997.2. Often got to fully fill up to get the gauge to respond.

Thanks all - saddle bag description makes perfect sense and explains it nicely!
