where are you?
Best locations I find are somewhere where the background is interesting, but doesn't overwhelm the shot. If you look back through the recent car posts you'll see the best shots were taken in a closed warehouse, carpark, runaway etc or somewhere with a fairly plain background e.g. a country lane, drive way with nice gate posts.
There are some shots which work when the background is interesting, but these tend to be nice pictures rather than focusing on the car.
