In my unceasing attempts to drive myself nuts, I've narrowed down my choice of next car to either a BMW 530D GT (or maybe 520), Merc CLS estate/shooting brake, probably the 2L diesel, or the outside "treat myself" choice of a Panamera diesel. All are a good compromise for me between comfort/luxury, something slightly out of the ordinary, load carrying ability and reasonable economy.

However...

I expect to do about 40K miles over 3 years, maybe more. On all those cars, and indeed the safer choice of an E class estate, I can save £3-5K by buying at 80K miles versus 50K, and the same again if I buy over 100K miles.

So, assuming a normal depreciation curve, do you think I'd be better off to buy the higher mileage car and avoid the cliff edge that 100K miles seems to represent?

That was my thinking too. On most of these the difference between 60K and 100K is about £3000, so makes a difference.

Thanks, can't afford the fuel costs. Otherwise I'd probably keep the Range Rover.
