So, the other half finally sold her SL350 due to the imminent arrival of baby225. Was a toss up between a C class or CLS but finally settled on this CLS530. This has the 61k on the clock and the 3.0 V6 diesel engine which makes 220bhp but around 370lbs of torque.
Exterior is in very good condition, couple of little blemishes but considering the car is 8 years old it's been well cared for. Including a dealer/specialist service history.
Interior is immaculate though.

It certainly has plenty of room and actually has more legroom than my E Class albeit with a lower roofline in the back and a massive boot. Makes a change from so many SUVs that mums drive at least haha
The other half doesn't do a huge amount of driving but the bulk will be motorways so this will do 45mpg on a run, pretty much 30mpg when not. Still shifts pretty well too so makes for a nice driving experience.

There isn’t a middle seat. One of the differences over the E is that it is a distinct 4 seater with the rear centre console which was standard equipment. Doesnt look too comfortable.

In terms of the ride quality, it's fairly firm but remains really refined. This example doesn't have airmatic which I'm quite pleased about. It's a feature the other half would never make use of but adds potential costs. It certainly inspires confidence in it's ability to go round a corner but wafts suitably.
That's correct, I have a CLS63 and an old E320 (and a couple of Renaults haha) and the other half has this CLS.

This is the CDI version so lower on all out BHP at 220bhp but nearly 400lbs of torque so in gear it shifts and even off the line it gets a move on. The 7 speed auto helps though and it pairs up nicely with the V6 diesel engine. Gets out of 1st gear quickly and then 2nd through 3rd gear means you really feel it move. Being diesel is where the 45mpg come into play although round town it's more like 28-30mpg but respectable for a big car. I think you'll find it's kicking out 272BHP in 350 CDI guise, makes for a rapid machine but you'll need to be pretty sedate to hit 45MPG I feel.

It has a few tiny blemishes but overally it's in excellent condition. Can tell it's been looked after which I hope is a good sign as I suspect we'll be taking it over the 100k mark in our ownership. So now you have two CLS's and an E Class ?

This is a 2+2 I think they call it so only a two seater in the back. To be honest, with two child seats in the back you couldn't fit anyone inbetween even if it had a three seater bench. It does have a rather nice storage compartment though, which is handy for erm, stuff! hahaDoesnt look too comfortable.

I know exactly what you mean, surprises me that people pay high end money for a car like this but don't tick a few more boxes. For example the parking sensors on this example are after market. On a car of this size, I'd have thought they'd be a given but what's been fitted work well enough just audible rather than with the LED indicator too. Thankfully the wood finish on the interior was spec'd over the matt brown wood that they seem to have. I've yet to find out what options were ticked although it has the Harmon Kardon stereo and Command so it's got decent satnav and audio.
To be fair though, even in base form the CLS is a well spec'd car. It's got everything you'd expect in a model like this and offers a nicer interior and build than a C Class. Even though looking at the market for C Classes they seem to be priced similarly to the CLS for the mileage you're getting.
