so i've had a BMW Z4 for a couple of years, 07 si coupe 3l v6 etc

previous owner went mental with m sport body kits and decals (and kept no invoices) but left the run flat tyres on, lolol

repair bills went from 300 last year to 1500 this year so time for a change i reckon

few points

- very low miles per year due to mostly short 5/10/15/20 min drives. do approx 3k miles a year

- current mpg is 16 or something, so that's the target to beat

- the missus is suggesting ludicrous cars like brand new 80k Porsche cayennes/range rover vogues and awful cars like mini cooper countrymans (countrymens?) & volksvagen passats

- no brats kids to haul about, so no need for a 4x4

- saloons are a bit too old-manish for me at 28, and a bit big for tight parking between concrete pillars/another car

- i live in glasgow with permanent rain and wind, so convertibles will be used for about 4 days of the year

- v6/8/10/12s welcome

budget is preferably 10k but can stretch (+ p/ex old car)

fire away

If you don’t have any responsibilities and you can afford it then buy something like a 911. I did when I was the same age as you and it was the best thing I ever did, my friends all thought I was completely mad, but I managed to own 911’s for 10 years before I had kids and I’ve never regretted it.

I live in Glasgow and use my soft top all the time!

Had the roof down on Saturday!

350Z? Not really all that different to your Z4 in a lot of ways though.

I like mid engined, I'd quite like a Porsche of some flavour next, you looked at Cayman/Boxster?
haha, you've used up one of the 5 days wink where abouts in glasgow are you?

have looked at boxsters since there's quite a few going for less than 10k, nearly 5 k in some cases

so it's in budget but not massively keen on soft-top convertibles

any particular years/models to avoid?

there is (or was, it might be gone now) a 3.2l v6 audi tt for sale just a mile from me

think it was an 07 model, white, 8k

tts looks nicer inside though

i respect the 350z for what it is, but it doesn't do anything for me, looks wise

don't want another z4...z8, sure biggrin

merc slk amg is a good shout, will see if there's any nearby...

definitely going to be a cayman or 911 if I go the porsche route

as above, what are the years/models to avoid?

neighbour has a cayenne and it's a ugly noisy brick. ironically, he's recently gotten a lexus hybrid estate as a company car and hasn't driven the 4x4 for months lolz

tempted by a 911, but cheapest I've seen it nearby (i.e not 200+ miles away) is around 16-18k odds

what years/models would you go for?

About £30,000 gets you into a 997
