Theresa May's convoy goes wrong way around roundabout?

I don't have an issue with it but I am curious why they'd do this as it seems to serve no purpose other than maybe saving 5 seconds off a journey.
Am I overthinking and it's as simple as that?

As noted above, the aim is to keep the escorted vehicle moving at all times. So given that the route here involved heading off the roundabout to the right, the "wrong way" route adopted meant the convoy only had to traverse the minimum amount of the roundabout - direct from entry to exit - without needing to go past any other entry/exit points which would then have also needed controlling.

The SEG always amaze me. The fact that they, with a few bikes and cars, can do what in America would require a small army of vehicles is fantastic. Effortless progress with minimal disruption to the public.
OTOH, the potential threat vs the level of protection is also very different between UK and USA.poo at Paul's said:
I would be able to have got round that the long way around, quicker than they did the short way. Seem a bit steady to me.
Can't upset the passengers by getting it sideways/doing donuts/ showing off by wheelying past the VIP car one handed whilst flicking them the bird. They don't like that kinda stuff. Especially the Royals (Andrew in particular).

What experience do you have of this sort of thing in America? In Washington DC, I've seen everything from full road closures for VIP transport, to small escort groups closing roads junction by junction to keep the VIP moving in a small, protected bubble. They're also very good at what they do but London is a far busier, more dynamic situation with a more complex road layout to manage. Jbeale96 said:

I live by the next roundabout on that road,so I see this quite often. As said,it's all done so quickly,"gone in 60 seconds", no one is inconvenienced. She often shops in the local Waitrose, just her,a couple of cops and one car.I think that is more amazing. Imagine Trump walking into his local Wallmart to get something for supper.

Can't say I care tbh. The least likeable member of that tribe.
Which bit btw? The sideways action or the bird?

She was the one who did all the budget cutting, so if someone does the miserable old trout in through lack of protection she's only herself to blame. I'd suspect she's most at risk from Gove poisoning her tea though.
It's not "cutting budgets". It is getting finances back in shape after reckless Labour maniacs nearly bankrupted the country.

Very true. Loyly said:

In all honesty my only experience with Americans doing this is purely anecdotal, but every time I’ve heard about it it has involved many roads being closed and many people disrupted. Old Merc said:

I imagine the whole shop would be closed off and guarded by a disproportionate number of men in suits...a by-product of their gun laws I guess (which is not a debate I wish to engage in). t if the convoy goes the wrong way around a poxy roundabout maybe we should have a military helicopter for her instead so the DCW won't have anything to moan about.
